Things to do in and around Broomhill

Whether you are looking to just relax and unwind or want a really active holiday, Broomhill has plenty to offer! With many different options for the active both within Broomhill and in the immediate area, our extensive gardens and grounds mean you can always find peace and seclusion, if you just want privacy and relaxation.

Especially for the young

For those with young children, Broomhill is ideal; being over half a mile from any public road there is plenty of freedom to run around safely and securely. We have two play areas with swings, a fort, a Wendy house and climbing equipment. Firm favourites are our miniature ponies available to give youngsters perhaps their first opportunity to try a ride. Baby sitting can usually be arranged for evenings. A recent addition is our toddler?s playroom giving parents with children under six their exclusive play area, useful at any time but particularly out of season. We can provide cots, high chairs, stair gates, bed bars, electrical socket protectors, night lights and baby listeners free of charge. Please let us know your requirements when you book.

For Teenagers

In all honesty, if your teenager seeks video arcade games, theme parks and hates to be separated from their X-box, then Broomhill and probably Bude are not ideal. However, if they are keen on sports – Archery, Swimming, Tennis, Surfing, Coasteering, Golf, Mountain Boarding and general outdoor activities, we can keep them busy and happy.

Coasteering in Cornwall

Activities

During the school summer holidays, Archery takes place once each week under the supervision of a qualified coach. We provide the equipment and tuition for you to try your hand at this time honoured sport. The nearby 9-hole golf course is often popular with youngsters beginning to play golf as they are very welcome – not always the case at ‘proper’ golf courses.

Surfing is a big draw to north Cornwall with the fabulous Atlantic surf and even if you don’t have your own gear, there are plenty of surf-hire shops and surf schools and on most of the beaches where you can get surf lessons with all equipment is provided.

Adrenaline junkies could try coasteering – a mixture of exploring, climbing, swimming and if you are brave enough, leaping into the ocean! Or if you prefer to stay dry, have a go at mountain-boarding!

More sedate activities are exploring the Bude Canal or river Neet by rowing boat, bicycle or just strolling on foot along the miles of footpaths. Bike hire and rowing boat hire are both available nearby.

For horse lovers, riding is very rewarding in Cornwall. The beaches, cliff-tops and lanes are wonderful for an exhilarating ride out.

For something a little more relaxing you could go fishing on the canal or at Tamar lake and a round of golf at the course in the centre of town. And for those rainy days how about a leisure swim in Bude’s large indoor swimming pool with wave machine and flumes or maybe have a go at ten-pin bowling while the kids have an adventure in the adjacent childrens’ play area.

Bude Golf Course

Golfers are particularly well catered for when staying at Broomhill. North Cornwall boasts some of the finest courses, and amongst them is Bude’s own 18 hole championship course, which we overlook. Holsworthy Golf club is about 7 miles away, and Bowood, Launceston, Trethorne, High Bullen, Trevose, Roserrow, Great Torrington and Hartland Forest courses are only 30 minutes away; for a special day both St. Mellion and the Royal North Devon are under an hour. In addition, only a few minutes away is a splendid Parkland 9 Hole 1,900 yard course complete with driving range.

Walkers on the Cornwall coast path

If you enjoy walking, this area of Cornwall has some unsurpassed walks. You can choose from the majesty and strenuous walking of the South West Coast Path, the moody moors (both Bodmin and Dartmoor are within easy reach) or you can take a leisurely stroll alongside the historic Bude Canal which climbs gently inland to the small village of Marhamchurch. We have several books and leaflets with details of walks in the area.

Bude Bike Hire

For fishermen, whether it be sea fishing or coarse fishing, you will be well catered for in the Bude area. Sea fishing can be had from the rocks and beaches at Bude with sea fishing boat trips available from Boscastle and Clovelly. Some fine coarse fishing is available on the Bude canal, scene of many competitions, and there also several other private coarse fisheries nearby.
