Things to do around Bude
Bude is an unspoiled and picturesque Victorian seaside town with charming shops and restaurants, which are mostly locally owned and run to showcase the individual creativity and resourcefulness of the local area.
It is no surprise to the locals that Bude is consistently recognised by the British Travel Awards – hauling in a bronze, a silver and two Gold awards in four successive years!
Bude is home to one of the UK’s best sea pools, and its safe, sandy beaches are lifeguard-patrolled from May to September, making them ideal for surfing and bodyboarding. For those who enjoy exploring, there are plenty of local cycle paths, as well as the South West Coast Path, which offers invigorating walks and spectacular scenery.
Being just off the main A39 (known as the Atlantic Highway), many local attractions are easily accessible within 30 minutes to an hour’s drive, and we welcome many German visitors who love to explore the area that gave life to the popular Rosamunde Pilcher novels.

Each beach has its own individual character, from Widemouth Bay, one of the world’s most famous surfing beaches, with its vast expanse of open sand, through to Summerleaze with its famous Sea Pool and many attractive rock pools.

Sporting Activities
Being so close to the sea, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy a variety of water-based sports and excellent instruction. Several of the local beaches are popular with surfers who offer lessons and equipment hire, for example Bude Surfing Experience at Summerleaze and Freewave Surf Academy at Widemouth.
Walking & Cycling
Broomhill Manor is set in 18 acres of grounds, with well-tended gardens and woodland that guests are welcome to stroll through and enjoy. Beyond the grounds, tracks lead to the villages of Poughill and Stratton, both of which have good pubs with welcoming landlords, about 15 minutes’ walk away.

Bude, where Cornwall begins, is outstanding for its space, fresh air, spectacular scenery and friendly, welcoming atmosphere and is perhaps most popular for what it does NOT have!
Regular traffic jams and large-scale commercialism are not what Bude is about – a friendly reception and a totally natural environment are very much more the scene.
